Principals' Message

Dear Students and Parents,

Welcome back to school for the 2010-2011 school year!  We are off to a great start with a record number of parents in attendance at Back to School Night.  We have outstanding students here at our school.  They are bright, considerate, and hard-working students who want to excel in their studies.  We also have lots of new students in school this year, and we hope that they will feel welcome at our school.

At Sunrise Ridge Intermediate School, we believe that three things are very important.   It is our mission to inspire our students to ACHIEVE, BELONG and CONTRIBUTE by:

  • Creating a safe, positive school educational environment.
  • Expecting excellence for everyone.
  • Encouraging  students to make connections and find their place in the world
  • Engaging students in the pursuit of purpose and meaning for learning and life.

Everything we do here at the school helps us achieve our mission.

We have a unique program here at our school called THUNDERBOLT TIME.  This program is designed to provide time in the school day for students who have not achieved proficiency in the classroom.  These students go to Intervention where they work in small groups with a teacher who will re-teach concepts they are missing.  Students who have achieved proficiency get to choose from over 68 different Enrichment classes.  We have also included some Challenge courses for students who are ready for a more rigorous academic opportunity.  We also have a mandatory Study Hall for students who score  below 70% in their core classes.  This program motivates students to work hard in class, so that they can attend Enrichment classes.  However, if students are struggling, we want to provide them with every opportunity to learn.

Parents, thank you for supporting your student in their education.  We know that students whose parents are involved in their education achieve at higher levels.  What can you do?  We have a few suggestions:

  1.  Send your student to school.  Students who miss school miss out on important learning.
  2. Check Power School each week.  Contact our front office if you need userID and passwords.
  3. Ask to see your student’s planner each evening and check to see that they get their homework done.
  4. Volunteer at the school.
  5. Communicate with the school about your concerns.

Again, we are looking forward to a great year.  Thank you for sharing your students with us.

Sincerely,
Sandy Ferrell
