Principal's Message:

Hello Students and Parents,

It was so good to welcome the students back on Wednesday for the last half of the school year. We are so pleased with their progress and hard work.

On Saturday, January 7th, Sunrise Ridge in conjunction with the University of Utah is hosting the first southern Utah Lego League Tournament.  Teams throughout southern Utah have built robots out of Legos and are competing against each other from 7:15 to 2:45.  At approximately 12:00 noon the students will compete in our gym, and spectators are welcome.  We would love to have a large crowd to support our two teams that have entered this competition.  I hope many of you will come and cheer them on!

At the beginning of this school year, we wanted to encourage students to do every assignment, so we implemented a Study Hall with the requirement that students would attend if they had a zero on any assignment.  Although our intent was good, it has not turned out the way we had hoped.  We continue to have a large number of students with zeros, and we found that many students were not doing homework because they felt they could do the assignments in Study Hall.  Bottom line is that this program is now requiring more resources than we can provide, so we are changing the program.  We will continue to run Study Hall but only for students who have I's or U's in their classes.  The other students will be expected to complete their work as homework and hand it in on time to their classroom teacher.  Please continue to encourage your students to complete every assignment.  We know that completing the work equals increased learning.

There is no school on January 16th in honor of Martin Luther King.

Our next Parenting class begins on February 1st and runs through February 22nd on Wednesday evening.  We have had a great response to that class and hope that many of you will attend.  Larry Bradley has presented some great helps for parents.

Second trimester ends on February 17th.

Unbelievable as it may seem, we are beginning the process of registering students to next year.  We will get information out as those times get closer.

Thank you so much for your support of the school.  Many of you contributed to the Academic Booster Club.  Those funds have been used to provide computers, nonfiction books, technology and to support academic programs.

We appreciate your students and love having them here at our school.  Thank you for all you do to make education a priority in their lives.
