ACE Physical Education is a optional opportunity for all 7th graders who would like to get more out of their Physical Education experience. ACE students remain in the same class as other students, but are given additional options for their learning experience. Some of these additional opportunities include archery, weight training, choices in team sports, and a chance to lead the class. Students who complete the ACE Fitness program will receive a notation on their progress report that they graduated with honors from the ACE Fitness program. Advanced CTE gives students the chance to get a head start on preparing for college and careers. In CTE programs you will learn how core school subjects like math, science and writing are used in real-life
Dramatic Arts Festival is a district wide theater showcase and competition for grades 6-9. Students have an option to perform in one of several categories such as: Scenes, monologues, readers theater, dramatic interpretation, humorous interpretation, poetry, and musical theater. The best pieces from each round have the opportunity to showcase their piece for the whole group and all of the judges. The top two in each category receive a cash prize.
High Ability Learners (HAL) A learner with high ability who gives evidence of high performance capability in such areas as intellectual, creative, or artistic capacity or in specific academic fields and who requires accelerated or differentiated curriculum programs in order to develop those capabilities.
History Fair an annual competition in which local students present their own historical research projects on topics.
Lego League is an international competition organized middle school students (ages 9–14 in the United States). Each year in August, LEGO League introduces a scientific and real-world challenge for teams to focus and research on.
Math Counts is a nationwide middle school mathematics competition held in various places in the United States. Its founding sponsors include the CNA Foundation, the National Society of Professional Engineers, and the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics.
Science Fair a competition where contestants present their science project, results in the form of a report, display board, and/or models that they have created.
Science Olympiad is a middle school and high school team competition in which students compete in ‘events’ pertaining to various scientific disciplines, including earth science, biology, chemistry, physics, and engineering.
S.T.E.A.M. refers to the areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. STEAM education incorporates the “A” for the arts – recognizing that to be successful in technical fields, individuals must also be creative and use critical thinking skills which are developed through exposure to the arts. S.T.E.A.M. At Sunrise Ridge STEAM is a year-long course where innovation and problem solving are key components as students engineer, develop and market products that are beautiful, useful, and meaningful to others.
STEM is a curriculum based on the idea of educating students in four specific disciplines — science, technology, engineering and mathematics — in an interdisciplinary and applied approach.
Thunderbolt Time / Interventions A systematic, school-wide program to provide interventions for students who have not demonstrated competence on core concepts; enrichment activities for students who have demonstrated competence; and gifted programs for students who would benefit from a more challenging learning environment.
